A beautiful homegrown brand story
The founders of African Equations (PTY) Ltd, Shareen Parker and Silvana Dantu have blazed a trail through uncharted terroirs with their non-alcoholic beverage brand. The wholly black-owned, women-owned company is also involved in areas such as agro-processing, bottling, beverage production and global marketing.
On par with the best
Experience in the hospitality and tourism sectors led Parker and Dantu to identify opportunities that inspired them to develop a new alcohol-free beverage brand, one that would cater to new discerning markets and lifestyles by being beautifully packaged and great tasting.
The resulting quest by the two entrepreneurs to research over a hundred corked, blended and concentrate grape juice brands produced in our region, finally culminated in the production of a premier product made from 100% pure single Cape Muscat Seedless grape cultivar, to bring the dream of a non-alcoholic sparkling grape concept to reality.
The Zari name
The Zari name, which was inspired by the gold or silver thread woven through luxurious, traditional middle eastern silks, is ideal to add glamour and sparkle to multi-cultural celebrations and occasions.
The Zari packaging
Designed to appeal whether on the shelf or on the table, Zari’s designer packaging has recently been revamped. Hiding in amongst the divine vine-clad motifs you can spot some of the indigenous creatures of the Cape Winelands ~ The Cape White Eye, an African Monarch butterfly and a Cape Dwarf chameleon or two. And of course bunches of the 100% single cultivar Cape Muscat grapes of origin from which Zari juices are pressed.
Ticks all the boxes of sustainability
All-in-all the new Zari zero alcohol sparkling grape juice ticks all the boxes of sustainability – creativity, empowerment, optimum use of local natural and human resources as well as world class packaging, marketing and branding – and is a model that producers of raw materials across the continent would do well to follow in the quest to take on global markets.
